MESSAGE OF SUPPORT FROM
THE MUSLIM JUDICIAL COUNCIL

I extend my gratitude to Imam Abd al-Latif Parker, Maulana Qutbodien Kagee and the Centenary Committee of the Sufi Sahib Centenary Celebrations for affording me this honour of writing briefly on the history of a great man.

Shah Ghulam Muhammad Sufi Habibi Siddiqui (Sufi Sahib) arrived on South African soil exactly one hundred years ago. He was undoubtedly a saint, intent on propagating the teachings of the Holy Quran and the Sunnah of the Holy Prophet (may the peace and blessings of Allah be upon him). In the short time that elapsed between his arrival here and his death in 1911, he succeeded in founding several masajid throughout the country, often travelling great distances and through hostile territory in order to do so. Cape town, in particular, has been enriched by his vision. The Habibia Masjid is one of the outstanding manifestations of his achievements and has always been a beacon for Islamic institutions and other centres of learning.

The new complex that surrounds the renovated Habibia Masjid reflects the intense Islamic environment from which it sprang and is a remarkable achievement. On behalf of the entire Muslim Judicial Council, I hereby commend the authorities at the mosque for their exceptional feat, and pray that the great benefits be accrued during the centenary celebrations and thereafter.
