Al-Imam Al-Hafidh Jalaluddeen As-Suyuti RA, one of the greatest scholars of Islam says in Al-Hawi Lil Fatawa: “To commemorate the Mawlid, which is basically gathering people together, reciting parts of the Qu'ran, narrating stories about the Prophet's birth and the signs that accompanied it, then serving food, and afterwards, departing, is one of the good innovations; and the one who practices it gets rewarded, because it involves venerating the status of the Prophet and expressing joy at his honourable birth.”

Every person is on a hijrah - a migration. The aim of our migrations are different. If our aim is Allah, then we will gain His love and pleasure. The month of Muharram, symbolising the Hijrah of our beloved Prophet SAW, seeks to instil this awareness in our hearts. It is a period for us to commemorate and contemplate.
