He was the eldest son of Hazrath Shah Muhammad Yusuf Habibi. He was born at the Darbaar in Cape Town, where he received his Islamic education, and later on, received his education from the late Sheikh Muhammad Salih 'Abaadi. Imam Abdul-Latief Purkar (Imam Baboo), and his younger brother, Goolam Ahmed assisted Imam Abdul-Karriem in the affairs of the darbaar.
From the early 1940’s he assisted in the general administration of the musjid and was charge of performing nikah, janaza namaaz and other religious needs of the community. He assisted in the various major renovations and extension. He was conferred the khilafat by Hazrath Peer Hafiz Pasha Habibi of Hyderabad in 1988. He was the longest serving Imam at Habibia, serving the institution for over 50 years. He passed away in March 2004, at the age of 78 after which Moulana Goolam Qotboodin Kagee became head custodian
